Fun Facts About Bamboo

There are many reasons why we choose Bamboo fiber as our core product. Bamboo is a revolutionary fabric that has unparalleled advantages, including strength, versatility, and luxurious touch. The resulting fabric is soft, cozy, and absorbent, and great for making pillow covers!

FUN FACTS 1

BAMBOO IS GRASS NOT TREE!

  • Bamboo is an incredibly renewable and sustainable crop. Despite the fact that some plants can grow as tall as the tallest trees, bamboo isn’t actually a tree. It is, in fact, a grass, and one of the most persistent and versatile grasses on the planet.
  • The crop requires very little water (1/3 lesser water than cotton) and doesn’t need to be sprayed with pesticides or fertilizers to grow. Plus, bamboo releases 35% more oxygen into the air compared to trees of the same size.
  • Bamboo grows on every continent except Antarctica.

FUN FACTS 2

WHY IS BAMBOO A SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL?

  • Bamboo is sustainable for several reasons. First, it’s darn easy to grow. Bamboo farmers need not do much to ensure a bumper crop. Bamboo is also one of the fastest growing plants on the planet which is where its sustainability claims come from.
  • When bamboo is harvested, it regrows naturally from its own root system and will continue to grow with no additional planting or cultivation. This means no excess tilling and no soil erosion. This all translates into a fair degree of soil conservation, which aids in water absorption and all-around stability wherever bamboo groves flourish. Bamboo improves, rather than depletes soil quality.

FUN FACTS 3

BAMBOO IS STRONGER THAN STEEL!

  • Bamboo is strong — stronger than steel, in fact. According to (Interesting Engineering), bamboo has a tensile strength of 28K/PSI. Steel only has a tensile strength of 23K/PSI.
  • More than 1 billion people around the world live in bamboo houses.
  • Bamboo was the only plant to survive the radiation of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima.
  • In Asian culture, bamboo is a symbol of durability, strength, resilience and flexibility.
  • Bamboo shoots are rich in fiber and potassium and is a delicacy in Asian cuisine.
  • Thomas Edison used bamboo filaments in his first light bulbs.
